so you think you can dance

the title of the dance competition reality show. American Idol for dancers, I suppose. Saw a couple episodes when the contestants were taking classes with different choreographers. 2 ballroom dancing classes, a modern dance class, and 2 hip hop classes. They're very intense classes. Imagine learning a totally different dance style right then and there. I like watching the good dancers. They make it look so easy, when in fact it takes years of training and a little bit of talent to be able to let your body dance like that.

Back to movies now. Ballroom dancing is the theme of Strictly Ballroom, obviously given away by the title. At first glance the movie isn't visually attractive with its rough editing and extreme character portrayals. You can only get that from an independent movie. Disregarding that, if you like dance theme movies, you'll most likely enjoy this. The movie shows a lot of the dance practice sessions between the talented male dancer with his "ugly duckling turned to swan" female partner. That's my favorite part, when they practiced their dance leading to the competition at the end of the movie.
